Plant Condition
Hostas are shipped dry-root. They are wrapped in damp newspaper or other material to keep them from drying out, then shipped.
Hostas are VERY resilient. If your plant doesn't look like it is in perfect condition, don't despair. Once it gets into
the ground it will quickly perk up. We send hundreds of hostas in this way each spring, and haven't lost any!!
As the season progresses, plants will have large leaves. It is not unusual for some of these to get broken during shipping.
In some cases we may even prune some of the leaves before shipping. That is normal, and not a reason for return. Once again,
they will quickly put out new leaves and soon you will not even be able to tell they recently went through shipping.
Plant Size
Most of our hostas are plants/divisions from plants that are 6 years old or older. They may have multiple eyes, but with
some varieties may not. They WILL have LARGE healthy root systems. Our plants are normally what are sold as gallon size or
6-inch pots, not the little 2 to 4 inch pot size. This allows for much larger, well-developed roots. Dwarf and small varieties of
course will be smaller simply because the full sized plant is so small.
We do add new varieties each year.
If these are new tissue culture plants they will always be labeled as such (tc). You will still be getting the
same great genetics. It just might take the plant a year or two longer to get up to mature size. Often the price of first
year plants are reduced a few dollars over what a plant with a full root system would sell for to give you a better bargain.
Special Orders
As a general rule, our offerings are limited to the varieties listed. However, if you are trying to get a variety we don't
have, e-mail us. We are always hunting for new varieties ourselves. Generally, we have minimum orders from our suppliers
that require us to order quite a few of a variety. However, if you can use more than one of a plant, we may be able to combine
your order with other customers' orders and our own needs to give us the excuse to order a new variety! We're always hunting
for that excuse!!!
